I am so proud of our church body. In the midst of a recession and financial uncertainty, you stepped up, trusted God and responded well for The Second Mile Campaign. As this campaign evolved, it was amazing to see the emphasis focus on lives that have been changed over the last 20 years because of the ministry of First Baptist Oviedo. We heard testimonies from people who received Christ, from those who have been sustained by our members in a time of crisis, from those who were rescued from difficult situations, as well as from those who trusted God with their finances resulting in an exponential growth in their spiritual lives.
On October 17, we celebrated together and announced that over 700 church families have joined together and have made commitments in the amount of $6,587,039. We praise God for how our church family sought the Lord’s direction and responded in faith. Thanks to everyone who has participated in The Second Mile Campaign. Your participation is important! We all need to be a part of God’s family, doing God’s work.
As a continuation of The Second Mile celebration on October 17, we will hold a ceremony on Sunday morning, October 31 to set up "stones of remembrance" (Joshua 4).
Each adult Small Group class is selecting their favorite verse of Scripture which will be written on a stone; then the stones will be placed at the altar during the Worship Services. In addition to the Small Group stones, one from each age-group ministry and one representing our Sunday morning Worship Services will also be placed at the altar—all to commemorate the great thing God did during the worst recession of our lifetime. These stones will be placed outside on our campus for all to see.
When our children ask, “What do these stones mean?” We will have an opportunity to pass our faith down to the next generation by telling them the wonderful thing God did and how we were involved.
I would like to recognize and give a special word of thanks to the leadership team of The Second Mile Campaign. Our Chairman was Rick Hall. His dedicated and hard-working team included Keith Brantley, Craig Finlay, Pat Lewis and Debbie Lynn. In addition to this leadership team, there were many more committed individuals who worked behind the scenes to make this campaign successful. Thanks to each and every one of you for your dedication to First Baptist Oviedo.
