Upward Cheerleading is a ministry designed to use cheerleading to teach each child about SALVATION, CHARACTER, and SELF-ESTEEM as they learn team skills.
Upward Basketball is for players age 4 by September 1 of that season through Grade 5. Many players participate from around the community. You can learn more about Upward Sports at Upward.org.
Here at First Baptist Oviedo, Upward Cheerleading squads are formed for Pre-K, K-1st, 2nd-3rd, and 4th-5th grades depending on how many cheerleaders are registered in a given season. Pre-k squads DO NOT practice during the week, but only practice directly before each of their games. Kindergarten through Grade 5 squads have one practice during the week, typically a Tuesday or Thursday, and a game each Saturday. The season will include 6-8 games as the schedule permits. All practices and games will be in the Christian Life Center gym here on campus.

Cheerleading Preview:
This is an optional event during Basketball Evaluations where you can view some of the cheers. Sample outfits will be available for you to double-check the size you chose for your outfit.
Thursday, November 17
6:00-7:00 p.m. PreK-1st grade; 7:00-8:30 p.m. 2nd–5th grade
Coaches:
If you are interested in coaching your child’s squad, please indicate so on your registration and pencil in Thursday, December 1 on your calendar for the 6:00-7:00 p.m. Coaches’ Meeting. All head coaches must be members of First Baptist Oviedo for at least six months.
Pre-K Practices:
Saturday, December 3; 9:00-10:00 a.m.
Saturdays, December 10–February 18; 9:00–9:30 a.m. (no practice Dec. 24, 31 or Feb. 11)
K-5th Practices:
Tuesdays or Thursdays, December 6–February 16; one hour at 5:30, 6:30 or 7:30 p.m.
No practices December 27 and 29 and possible optional practices January 3 and 5 during Christmas Break.
You can make a request on your registration form if you need to and we will make every effort to accommodate your schedule.
Games (all ages):
Saturdays, December 10-February 18, 2011 (no practices/games Dec. 24, 31 or Feb. 11)
Times to be determined based on number of registrants. Based on last year likely times are Pre-K 9:30-10:00 a.m., or one hour time slots beginning K-1st 10:30 or 11:30 a.m., 2nd-3rd 11:30 a.m. or 12:30, and 4th-5th 1:30, 2:30 or 3:30 p.m. The games your squad will cheer at will be determined based on your Cheer coach availability.
Picture Day:
Game 4 - Saturday, January 14, 2012 (yes, you will still have a game on that day!)
Squad/individual pictures will be taken and you will have the opportunity, but are not obligated, to purchase. You can view picture samples at magicmemoriesinc.com. Your child will still cheer at a game after the pictures are taken.
Awards:
Saturday, February 25, from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 noon in the Hangar.
