Upward Cheerleading is a ministry designed to use cheerleading to teach each child about SALVATION, CHARACTER, and SELF-ESTEEM as they learn team skills.
Upward Cheerleading for Basketball is offered for players age 4 (by September 1 of that school year) through Grade 5. Upward Cheerleading for Flag Football is offered for players age 5 (by September 1 of that school year through Grade 5). Many participate from around the community. We offer Upward Cheerleading for Basketball in the Winter and in Spring 2013 will offer our first season for Upward Cheerleading for Flag Football. At First Baptist Oviedo, squads will be divided by grade and gender depending on the number of registrant. Squads DO NOT practice during the week, but only practice directly before each of their games. Pre-K squads practice for 30 minutes and cheer for 30 minutes, Kindergarten through Grade 5 squads practice for one hour then cheer for a game all on Saturdays. The season will include 6-8 games as the schedule permits. All league events will be at Lawton Elementary School across the street or in the Christian Life Center gym here on campus.

Practices and Games (all ages): Saturdays through February 16, 2013 (no practices or games Feb. 9)
Pictures: Pictures will be available for distribution at the Award's Celebration.
Award's Celebration: 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, Saturday, February 23 in the First Baptist Oviedo Hangar.

2013 Upward Cheerleading for Flag Football
Once you register, you can expect to receive immediate email confirmation of your registration. You will want to "like First Baptist Oviedo Upward Sports" on facebook. A Parent Informational Brochure will be emailed to you closer to the close of registration. A coach will contact you after the February 26 Coaches Meeting to welcome you to the team. Everyone will practice first on Saturday, March 2.
Registration Fees:
$90 Early Registration December 1 – January 13
$100 Registration January 14 – February 17
$110 Late Registration after February 17 is only available if space permits.
Cheer top, mock turtleneck, skort, trophy and end-of-season surprise will be provided for all registered cheerleaders at no additional cost. Other optional costs associated with the league are pictures and any concession stand items or team snacks you choose to purchase.
2013 Upward Cheerleading for Flag Football Schedule
Cheerleading Evaluations:
In lieu of normal evaluations for the flag football season, we will be having a special event; please make every effort to be there.
Friday, March 1 – 6:00-8:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Oviedo, Christian Life Center Gym.
Coaches:
If you are interested in coaching your child’s cheer squad, please indicate so on your registration and mark Tuesday, February 26 on your calendar for the 6:00-7:00 p.m. Coaches’ Meeting. All head coaches must be regular attenders of First Baptist Oviedo for at least six months.
Practices:
All squads will practice the first time on Saturday, March 2 at Lawton Elementary School, then practices will be Saturdays before the game scheduled to cheer for. Pre-K will practice 30 minutes and cheer 30 minutes. K-Grade 8 will practice one hour then cheer for a game which lasts one hour.
No practice March 30 during Easter Break.
Games:
Saturdays, March 9-April 27 (no games March 30)
Times to be determined based on number of registrants. Youngest players will cheer earliest.
Picture Day:
Game 2 - Saturday, March 16, 2013 (you may have a shorter practice but yes, you will still cheer for a game on that day!)
Team/individual pictures will be taken and you will have the opportunity, but are not obligated, to purchase. You can view picture samples at magicmemoriesinc.com. Your child will still have a game after the pictures are taken.
Award Celebration:
Saturday, April 27 after your game.
